Employee Funded Health and Wellness Projects

Since the Employee Fund Drive began in 2001, employees of Baxter Health have pledged over $2.8 million to support the following projects. Many of these are funded solely by our employees.

Employee Crisis Fund

Over $600,000 has been given to the Employee Crisis Fund since the EFD started in 2001, assisting more than 1,025 of our employees. The Employee Crisis Fund helps employees financially when the unexpected happens. Emergency assistance is defined as “one-time aid to an employee due to an unexpected crisis such as an illness of employee or immediate family member, death, loss of home to a natural disaster or fire.” The Employee Crisis Fund is entirely funded by the EFD.

Friends Fund

The Friends Fund, almost entirely funded by the EFD, provided medication assistance to more than 200 patients last year. As prescription costs increase, so does the need. Patients apply for medication assistance and are screened for need by our social workers. Assisting patients with medications frequently avoids hospitalization, prevents readmission or shortens their length of stay.

Employee Children and Grandchildren Scholarship Fund

Last year, 29 scholarships were awarded. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 ($500 per semester) will be awarded in May for the 2023-2024 school year. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who are the children or grandchildren of Baxter Health employees. The parent or grandparent must have been employed with Baxter Health for at least one year and have worked 500 hours in the last twelve months. Scholarships will go to residents of Arkansas and Missouri and are awarded based on academic achievement and financial need. In the past 20 years, over $420,000 in scholarships have been awarded.

Mountain Home Christian Clinic

The Mountain Home Christian Clinic is a group of volunteers who have joined together to provide charitable health care to members of our community who are most in need. Baxter Health supports the efforts of the clinic by providing free medical equipment, medications and financial assistance. Volunteer doctors, dentists, nurses, therapists, pharmacists and social workers see more than 100 patients on the third Thursday of each month. They can turn every dollar donated into $19 when it comes to purchasing supplies.

Hospice House

Hospice of the Ozarks, a subsidiary of Baxter Health, offers inpatient hospice care in the Hospice House. It provides a homelike setting for terminally ill patients who are receiving care for one of the three situations: 1) symptom management, 2) respite care for support to primary caregiver or 3) residential-routine hospice care (renting a room).

Community Health Education & Support Houses

The majority of services provided by the Community Health Education & Support Houses are offered free of charge. Many employees have utilized the resources of these houses. Funding from the Employee Fund Drive helps to support many of the following:

• Mruk Family Center on Aging hosts various programs of interest for the area’s senior citizens. The Center includes classrooms for educational topics such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's diseases, safe driving, care-giving assistance and much more. The Center also provides exercise groups for both men and women as well as Rock Steady Boxing.
• Peitz Cancer Support House s the first line of support for cancer patients, their families and friends. Numerous support groups, a resource library, wig and turban bank and tobacco cessation classes are just a few of the services provided.
• Schliemann Center for Women’s Health is impacting the lives of hundreds of women of all ages through support and education. Programs offered include Girls’ Night Out events, SCWHE Learning and health forums. Also included are childbirth and breastfeeding classes, Safe Sitter® classes, exercise classes and numerous support groups.
