BRMC EMS Presented Service of the Year Award

The Arkansas Ambulance Association presented Baxter Regional Medical Center Emergency Medical Services (EMS) the 2015 Advanced Life Support (ALS) Service of the Year Award for Outstanding Service in the EMS Profession at the State EMS Conference held in Hot Springs, Ark., at the end of July.

The award was based on submitted BRMC EMS projects, including Priority Medical Dispatch training for 15 staff members; the development of advanced legislation for EMS in Arkansas to change the Scope of Practice for EMS and create the Community Paramedic Certification(State of Arkansas Act 685, which passed!); and the Blue and You Foundation grant to help sustain the Community Paramedic Mobile Healthcare Program, which was highlighted in a published article that reached over 400,000 residences in Arkansas. National attention was also gained in the National Association of EMTs publication.

The American Heart Association recognized BRMC for advancements in cardiac care through the STEMI Mission Lifeline program. BRMC EMS has also actively worked with the BRMC Trauma Department to implement new life saving techniques locally to help develop a community health coalition. Community partners include BRMC EMS, Baxter Regional Case Management, Public Health, Baxter Regional Home Health, Skilled Nursing, and ASU-Mountain Home with the goal of improving patient health and management of chronic diseases.

BRMC EMS has supported The Last Dance, a program that brings awareness of the consequences of drinking and driving to local high school students, for many years. Working in conjunction with Resource Officer Judy Fagen and ambulance staff members, BRMC EMS have provided education to the community through speaking engagements over 60 times in 2015. Each of these projects support the main goal of BRMC EMS: to treat every patient with respect, care for them like they are family and to seek opportunities to improve services.
