BRMC Celebrates National Nurse Practitioner Week

Baxter Regional Medical Center is proud to celebrate our team of nurse practitioners during National Nurse Practitioner Week, November 12 - 18, 2017. There are more than 234,000 nurse practitioners licensed to practice in the United States, with an additional 23,000 NP students graduating each year. We are proud of the more than 50 nurse practitioners serving in our hospital and community clinics, and we are so thankful for their dedication to providing excellent care for every patient, every time.

In celebration of National Nurse Practitioner Week, BRMC hosted a luncheon on Thursday, November 16 for the Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) serving in our community. An APRN is a nurse who has obtained at least a Master's Degree in Nursing, including Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists.

At the luncheon, Marie Thompson, MSN, APRN, CNP, was named Nurse Practitioner of the Year after being nominated by her peers. Marie has been a nurse practitioner at Regional Family Medicine since 1998 and is known as beloved and compassionate by her loyal patients. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Geriatrics and Family Practice and has served on the Advisory Boards of both the Mruk Family Education Center on Aging and Peitz Cancer Support House of BRMC. She also volunteers at the Mountain Home Christian Clinic.

Marie and her husband Phil have lived in the Twin Lakes Area for many years and have two children and two grandchildren. She and Phil, retired director of Hospice of the Ozarks, love the area lakes and spend as much time as they can boating, hiking, and canoeing on the Buffalo River.
